Word and character counter
Count words, visible characters, Unicode code points and UTF-8 bytes while editing text. Compare editorial length with storage size; emoji and accented letters illustrate why these measures differ.

How it works
- Words count word-like segments only. Character count groups combining marks and joined emoji; code points count Unicode scalar characters. UTF-8 bytes encode the original text without normalization.
- Worked example
- Hello → 1 / 5 / 5 / 5
Assumptions and limitations
Uses browser Intl.Segmenter in the page language. Word boundaries vary by language and browser Unicode version; hyphenated words and CJK text may differ from office software. Visible characters are grapheme clusters, including whitespace. Limit: 200,000 UTF-16 code units. No text is uploaded.
