Shutter angle and exposure time
Translate a cinema shutter angle and frame rate into exposure time. The reciprocal denominator helps compare the result with a camera’s 1/x-second setting. Use it when switching between still-camera and cinema-style controls.

How it works
- Exposure time = ÷ (360 × )
- Denominator of 1/x second = 1 ÷ Exposure time
- Worked example
- 180 ÷ (360 × 24) = 1/48 s

Assumptions and limitations
Angle is greater than 0 and no more than 360 degrees. Exposure cannot exceed one frame period. Camera limits may reject otherwise mathematical values. This does not choose an artistic motion-blur setting or prevent flicker from lights and displays.
