How it works

  • PPI = √(Horizontal pixels² + Vertical pixels²) ÷ Physical diagonal (inch); Physical width = Horizontal pixels/PPI
  • Worked example: √(1920²+1080²)/24 ≈ 91.787798753 PPI
  • Supported input limits: Horizontal pixels: 1 ≤ x ≤ 1000000; Vertical pixels: 1 ≤ x ≤ 1000000; Physical diagonal: 1e-12 ≤ x ≤ 1000000000000

Assumptions and limitations

Decimal SI prefixes use powers of 1000; binary IEC prefixes use 1024. One byte is eight bits. Transfer estimates assume constant throughput; video uses average bitrates and explicit overhead. Screen calculations assume square pixels. Printing preserves aspect ratio through fit or crop; image PPI is distinct from printer DPI. Exact storage ratios are retained; nonterminating decimal displays round to twelve places.
