How it works

  • Total acquisition and holding cost = Purchase hammer price × (1 + Effective buyer premium ÷ 100) + Purchase taxes and import charges + Transport and insurance + Restoration or servicing + Total holding costs
  • Net sale proceeds = Expected sale hammer price × (1 − Effective seller fee ÷ 100) − Fixed sale fees
  • Net transaction profit or loss = Net sale proceeds − Total acquisition and holding cost
  • Break-even sale hammer price = (Total acquisition and holding cost + Fixed sale fees) ÷ (1 − Effective seller fee ÷ 100)

Assumptions and limitations

All amounts use one currency. Purchase tax and import charges must be supplied by the user; this is not a tax calculation. Percentage fees are effective flat rates for the chosen lot; tiered schedules must be converted to their actual effective rate. Profit excludes income or capital-gains tax and currency changes. Sale price is the hammer price before buyer premiums.
