Knitting and crochet gauge
Turn measured gauge into stitch and row counts, with pattern repeats and achieved dimensions. Drag the graph handles to change inputs and explore the result.
Your inputs
These editable values illustrate the calculation. Replace them with your own inputs. Results update as you edit.
Calculations run in your browser. Inputs are not saved or sent to analytics.
How it works
- Rounded stitch count = ceil(max(0, × / − ) / ) × +
- Rounded row count = ceil( × / / ) ×
- Worked example: 20 / 10 × 50 = 100; ceil((100 − 2) / 4) × 4 + 2 = 102; 28 / 10 × 60 = 168

Assumptions and limitations
Use a washed/blocked swatch in the intended stitch pattern. Dimensions share one unit. Total stitches = pattern multiple × whole repeats + edge stitches; edges count within target width. Counts round upward to meet the target dimensions, up to 10 million each. Uniform gauge is assumed; shaping, yarn quantity, shrinkage and garment fit are not inferred.
