How it works
- Depreciation expense = ( − ) ÷
- Closing book value = Opening book value − Depreciation expense
- Worked example
- (10,000 − 1,000) ÷ 5 = 1,800; 10,000 − 1,800 = 8,200

Assumptions and limitations
This is a planning model, not a jurisdiction’s tax schedule. Double-declining uses 2/life against opening value, never goes below residual, and writes the remaining depreciable balance down in the final year. No partial-year convention, revaluation, impairment or disposal is modeled.
