How it works

  • Row positions = floor(( − 2 × ) / ) + 1
  • Plants in an unshifted row = floor(( − 2 × ) / ) + 1
  • Worked example: 240 × 120 cm; 30 cm × 30 cm; 15 cm ⇒ 4 × 8 = 32; Alternate rows shifted by half a spacing: 2 × 8 + 2 × 7 = 30

Assumptions and limitations

All dimensions use the selected unit. Margins locate plant centers, starting at one corner. Alternate rows shift by half the within-row spacing; row spacing is supplied separately. Oversized margins yield zero positions. The 90° comparison rotates row direction; this is not global packing optimization. Maximum 10 million positions and 1 million row positions. No species-specific spacing, paths or plant growth is inferred.
